Half-pint, cask ale at Alehouse. Shared with Finn. jet black in the glass, bubbly beige head, fragile lacing. Dark bread on the nose, lightly roasted, promising. Creamy malts with vague moments of anise to the taste profile. Ashy palate. Roasted endnotes. Okay porter version, not more. (Reading 20.10.2019)

Cask at White Hart, Tongham. A lack of aroma - although there is some hickory coffee roast to it. Glossy black. Think beige head rings the rim. An instant short bitterness, before a sugary sweetness sweeps through. A sour edge remains. Coffee, cream, burnt caramel, sour berries. Medium bodied. Both slickness and carbonation are light. Long slightly astringent finish. Even though it’s a roasting hot summer day this porter still slips down very well. It really benefits from the caramel sugariness. Good stuff.
