Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours black-brown with a very tight, creamy tan head. Lovely aroma, lots of rich roast, charred malts, pine and dark chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavor with well enough roast and hops to balance it out. Very roasty with charred wood, grass, sticky pine, dry chocolate, some dark and burnt sugar and earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Mild warming finish with lots of dry and roasty malts, scorched earth, charcoal, ash, dark chocolate, tobacco, light grapefruit, heavy grass and pine. Has a good bit of sticky, resinous bitterness. The dark, roasted malt character is very complex with lots of nice angles to it. Burnt wood, grass, roasted malts and baking cocoa linger on. Very solid beer on all fronts.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 9/04/2012. Near black in colour with a slight tan head. Big, hoppy aroma of citrus and green herbs. Flavour had a touch of sweetish chocolate, roasted malts and citrus fruit, with a lingering, dry finish. Very good.

On tap at the Craft. Opaque black beer, little pale tan head. Mild dark malts with a little lacto and coffee. Mild chocolate. Nice hops - juicy grapefruit orange and lemon. Semi dry finish. Unsurprisingly well hopped given the Steel City boys involvement. Lets hope we get some more Steel City in Laaaaaahndaaahn soon. Tom Cadden says ’Hello Boys!’

Cask at CP&K. It pours jet black, with a decent off-white head. The nose is leaf, raw hop, manure, lime, kiwi, passion fruit, nectarine and roasted malt. The taste is leaf, raw hop, manure, roasted malt, high bitterness, charcoal, burnt malt, salted liquorice, passion fruit and espresso, with a very long bitter finish. Like eating raw hops - a palate wrecker! Medium body and soft carbonation. Perhaps too bitter for me to drink more than one glass, but you can’t deny its flavoursome. Good stuff.
