One of Australia’s first certified organic beers, Steam Ale is not your standard craft beer.
This brew is inspired by traditional steam beers, which are lagers brewed at warm, ale temperatures. We turned this technique on its head by brewing an ale at a cool, lager temperature, and landed at the same result.
Our Steam Ale is exactly what the original steam beer brewers set out to achieve: a crisp, refreshing beer that doesn’t compromise on character.

33 cl bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, citrusy and light straw. Yeasty, citrusy and light grassy. High carbonation. Citrusy/lemonish. Bitter, yeasty and straw finish.

Bottle 330ml. @ home.Clear medium yellow colour with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, moderate hoppy, grass, citrus, tart, leather. Flavour is moderate sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, tart - citrus, grass, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20120925]

Loads of bread crumbs, toast and wet socks are pierced by a zesty lemon and sherbet note. The taste is similar, but less malty than on the nose. Oddly, all of the flavour is concentrated down the centre of the tongue - it’s long, but not wide and has a very dry finish with a bubbly palate. I had this one out of a bottle, but prefer it on tap.

Bottle. Clear very pale straw with no head. Grassy hop aroma. Light body, strong carbonation. Flavour is dominated by a etallic hoppy bitterness. Overall it’s OK, but a bit harsh and light on flavour.

Pours golden with lively carbonation sustaining an impressive white head.Aroma is faint, but shows some mild spicy and minty hops, some bready wheat and sweet clean malt.Quite clean flavours, and again, quite faint. Sweet clean malt and straw-like wheat first up, followed by quite a strong hoppy bitterness (reminds me of chinook) along with off-putting metallic notes on the finish. Has a certain white wine-like cloying sweetness throughout.Seems watery to me. But as already mentioned, that only adds to its quaff-ability.

Bottle. Pours gold with thin white head. Restrained citrus aroma with some floral and honey notes. Nice lively mouthfeel. Citrus and light malts. Slightly sour finish with some bitterness. Pleasant enough and competently made, but rather dull.
