This has proved to be a very interesting edition of Barrel Aged Decadence. The 2008 batch, an English-style barleywine aged in bourbon barrels, took on a pleasant sourness. Such quirks of nature can provide intriguing drinking experiences, like the many excellent wild ales being produced today. We think you’ll enjoy this delightfully unconventional offering.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with light dry fruits notes is very enticing. Taste is a mix of caramelized malt notes with light dry fruits but also of tart and lightly acidic notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. The mix between the caramelized malt notes and dry fruits with the tart and acidic flavors is bit singular and not something I am sure I would want to revisit very often.

Bottle 2/433 thanks to Markwise. Pours a cloudy coppet with small off white head. The aroma is light oak and vanilla. Medium mouthfeel with light oak and bourbon with sweet finish. Held up very well, an impressive Barley wine from Alesmith.

750ml bottle courtesy of GT2 at DC tasting. Murky thick brown-amber-burgundy. Oily beige head. Big caramel bourbon aroma. Pretty damn nice beverage. Balanced, despite the massively rich sweetness. Mellowed/lost carbonation in the mouthfeel, but still excellent. Quite a treat.

Bottle provided by GT2. Thanks! Poured a hazy brown cola color with a wispy off-white head. Aroma was a bit of vanilla oak notes, with some toffee, sweet malts. Flavor was light funk, with some sweet toffee, vanilla and a bit of booze behind it.

Clear cola brown beer, no head. Aroma: very spicy, pepper, wood, dark caramel, hint of mocha, vanilla, sugary, syrup, dried fruits, rum raisins, alcohol. MF: soft carbon, full body, thick almost syrupy texture. Taste: surprisingly sour start, sour white wine, unripe red forest fruits, red currants, then caramel, sweet alcohol is very numbing, bit spicy, citric acidity, figs, sour molasses (I have this bottle of Lebanese sour molasses from figs, don't ask). Aftertaste: little bitter, then sweet and sour, red currants, big sugary, spices, vanilla, lots of alcohol, bit of dried fruits and molasses.

Bottle 750ml. @ The Danish Summer Gathering, TFODRBSG12, Ulfborg. [ bottle # 105/433 ]. Clear dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, bourbon, caramel, chocolate, vineous, wood, alcohol, laber laver, dates, prunes. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long long duration, oxidide, dark fruit, bourbon, prunes, dates, dry, fruity tart notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. Very nice and balanced ;-) [20120818]
