The DR Congo’s premier beer, and an all-around average affair. Some sourness in the aftertaste, lots of grains in the flavour. Often served very, very cold in Kinshasa, which makes it hard to tell if it’s intended to have any real flavour.

Very carbonated to huge, dense, yellowish head over yellow-golden beer. Malty nose, faintly grassy, young grass/herb shoots. Seem to get a little corn aroma, but that might be suggestion as I was told Congolese beers use a lot of maize. Sweetish main taste with a light bitter hint that I couldn’t call hoppy for begging. Bit metallic. Grainy, too bland to talk about adjuncts. Extremely watery, to the point I have difficulty believing the claimed 5% ABV. To be totally honest, it’s much less bad than feared. Yet it’s as bland as anything AB might turn up with. The little metallic bitterness would be a negative point in any beer, here it’s nearly a relief, as SOMETHING is happening at least. Might prove better under a Kinshasa canopy at 35-40°C.

An orange beer with a collapsing white head. The aroma is skunky with notes of grain and brewing cereal. I wonder if it is light struck. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of metal and brewing cereal.

Golden colour. Slight banana note, alongside grassy (saazy) hop, and bready pale malt. Light carbonation. Fairly full body for style. Some background apple skin esters (yes, esters). Light bitterness and a fairly clean (if light) bread note. A little crisp in the finish, then wet.
