$13.99 6-pk @ Winter Springs Liquors
AROMA: Fairly sweet with fair amounts of soy sauce, malt, and dark fruits (e.g. raisins, prunes, etc.) scents. There are also faint scents of molasses and caramel.
APPEARANCE: Pours an opaque, extremely dark-brown with a short (1-finger), medium-tan, tightly frothed head that dissipates quickly with minimal lacing.
TASTE: Moderately sweet with just a touch of sharpness during the finish. Prevailing flavors are dark fruit, malt, and molasses. There are also minor notes of dark-roast coffee and soy sauce. I get just a touch of "booze" flavor in the finish, but I have to really search for it.
MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with a mostly smooth texture. However, I get a little "roughness" during the finish. Which is most likely due to the slightly above-average carbonation level.
OVERALL: Over the years, I've had this beer many times and greatly enjoyed it every time. Which baffles me as to why I have never rated it before now. I won't say that I disliked it, this time around, but I do remember it being much better than this one. Granted, it's been many years since I've had one of these. So either I am mis-remembering my experience with it (the most likely scenario), or they have slightly changed the formula. Either way, I would happily buy this again. It's just that I wasn't as "wowed" by it as I remember. Aroma, flavor, taste, and mouthfeel were all great. About the only thing I can nit-pick is that I wish the head lasted more than 5 seconds. Other than that, I'm a happy, happy, imbiber.

Bottle from Hopt. Aroma is dark malt with burned caramel, dried fruits, some roast, hint of liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with a mild bitterness. Body is above medium. Adequately robust Doppelbock.

Bottle 0,355ltr; Clear dark brown coloured brew with an red glow. Neutral sweet bitter taste with neutral hints of caramel and rusted malts. Yes its from Spaten and their beers are mostly neutral and not bad.

Bottle discovered by Peter in the porch fridge in Rio Rancho during the 2022 Christmas party. Brown with a thin, foamy head. Aroma full of caramel. Faintly vinous. Malty sweet with a touch of roasted bitterness. Body to full side of medium, mild carbonation, occasionally watery texture. Felt flattened out and dull, but may have suffered in storage. Didn’t have time to concentrate on this one.
