Brewed using Nelson Sauvin Hops this light golden ale has a crisp, dry bitter taste with hints of gooseberry and kiwi. ‘Whakatu’ (pronounced Fak-a-too) derives from the Maori name for ‘Nelson’ where the hops originate. Whakatu is a delightful zest of crisp fruit flavours.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Gold, small white head. A little bit of peach, with a crisp but slight bitterness following. This could be quite nice if it was souped up a bit, but at the moment it’s all very thin, watery and restrained. Shame.

On tap at Corn Exchange in Arbroath. Pours a slightly hazy golden colour with a decent head which hangs around. The nose has some notes of pine and grapefruit pith. There’s more of the same on the taste against a pale malt background. The palate is light to medium in body with a medium tangy texture and a good clean finish. Overall, a good ale!

Cask @ Inverness JDW
Straw, frothy white head, good lacing.
Aroma - very faint aroma of citrus hops and malt.
Taste - citrus lemon hop...bit of grape...light flavour...cereal malts...a bit buttery
Palate is thin, bit watery..soft carb....finish light citrus and bitter with a hint of weetabix coming though...bit of lingering sourness
Bland showcase for the Nelson Sauvin hop...just an OK average golden ale

Gold colour, creamy white head. The sauvin hops give their distinct sweet fruity, citrus aroma and taste leading to a light, dry hoppy finish.
