Edwin Beard Budding of Thrupp, Stroud, invented the lawnmower in 1830 - 'for the purpose of cropping or shearing the vegetable surface of lawns, grass plats, and pleasure grounds'.

Budding was an engineer servicing the abundant wool mills of the Stroud valleys and he took his inspiration from a machine with a helical blade that cut the nap (fluff) off the newly woven cloth. Budding went into partnership with, John Ferrabee to produce the mowers at Phoenix Mill Foundries in Thrupp. An example of Buddings original lawnmower can be seen at the Stroud 'Museum in the Park'.

Bottle. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a minimal sized off-white head. Rather fruity nose with resins, grass and a maltyness tending towards butterscotch. Dry, with soft carbonation and with a medium body. Pleasant bitterness in the flavor, with fruityness and a touch of toffeeish maltyness. A quite decent one, although a bit on the toffee side for my likings. 120623

Cask at The Royal Oak, Painswick, Gloucestershire last month. Golden coloured pour with smallish head. Clean hoppy aroma. Tastes very hoppy, lemon, slight sweetness. Incredibly drinkable. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this fresh beer in the stunning village of Painswick in the Cotswolds, wish I could buy it here in London.

Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole Inn, Aylesbury, Bucks 09-09-09 Pours warm gold with a thin white head. There is a lovely beery and bitter aroma with hops and malts presenting themselves. The taste is both malty and hoppy with ripples of citrus and a dab of honey, very nice beer. Nice crisp, fresh beer, light citrus and, good all round fruitiness make this a quaffers delight. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden colour, not much head. Mainly nectar and fruit in the aroma. Flavour is really nectary and wooden. Quite sweet, but still quite boring.
