The creation of the Johannes brand was a joint initiative of the Amber Brewery and the Gdańsk Museum. Part of the income from the sale of beer is allocated to the purchase of exhibits for the museum. Thus, each of the consumers becomes a co-sponsor of the purchased exhibits.
Beer is characterized by clarity and a beautiful amber color. It is balanced and its taste and aroma are very distinctive. The aroma has a solid malt base and classic Polish hops.
Lager is a style known from the Middle Ages. It is a bottom fermented beer aged at low temperatures. The name of our lager is a tribute to the outstanding astronomer and brewer from Gdańsk, Johannes Hevelius.
In respect of his contribution to Gdańsk brewing in 2011, which was announced as the year of Hevelius, we brewed a beer dedicated to him. The creation of the Johannes brand was a joint initiative of the Amber Brewery and the Gdańsk Museum. Part of the income from the sale of beer is allocated to the purchase of exhibits for the museum.
We have been brewing Johannes since 2011.
Thanks to the sale of this beer, the collections of the Gdańsk Museum gained the following exhibits:
2013 – “Portrait of a Gdańsk merchant” by Louis Sy;
2015 – porcelain lamb from the famous manufacture in Meissen, designed by the artist Peter Reinicke (1711/1715-1768) born in Gdańsk, who was one of the most famous designers of porcelain products;
2018 – equestrian portrait of Frederick II from around 1776, painted by Daniel Chodowiecki, shows Frederick II Hohenzollern called the Great and considered the creator of the power of Prussia.
Perfect for roasts and spicy meats. It will also work well as an addition to venison.

Edit 1/2026. Malty, grainy and light caramel aroma, slightly fruity. Clear gold body; persistent tiny off-white head. Grainy, fruity, dried apricot, earthy, honey. Fuller body, higher carbonation. Good strong pale lager / pale bock. 0,5 l, bottle, gift (thx Albin!).
# 220; 2/2016. Poměrně zvláštně chutnající pivo. V chuti slad, meruňky, višně - kyselky; minimální hořkost.

Bottle from a local supermarket in Mielno. Looks a bit like a bottle of medicine. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Starts dry-malty, some metallical notes, dry bitterness. Finish could be more balanced. Okay.

Bottiglia.

[50cl bottle from Mleczko, Reading.] A straw coloured pour with a fast fading white head; cereal grain aroma; sweet and sickly cereal taste; with a harsh sour finish. A typical strong Eurolager.
