On tap at Tap East. Black beer dark broen edges lasting beige head. Very heady mix. The sherbert hop is intoxicating. Cold yes. But also unlike any beer i have had today. Not many beers grab me by so much attention. Arresting

Keg @ BrewDog Edinburgh
Black, ruby edges around glass, thin off white head , some lacing
Aroma - roasted malts, dark malts, quite stouty for a bips which I like, rich roast, piney citrus
Taste as aroma, very stouty, zesty citrus resin hops, some bitter grapefruit, but has a bitter burnt crust which I’m not too keen on
Palate - medium carn. medium body. Finish as main flavour, dry, rather over bitter burnt crust roast that lingers.
Overall - Too burnt for a BIPA

Keg at BrewDog Camden. It pours dark brown (nr black), with a decent beige head. The nose is roasted malt, charcoal, caramel, toffee, treacle, smoked ham, dark fruit, citrus pith and leather. The taste is roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, charcoal, dryness, rich-roasted coffee and wood, with a long bitter-roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Great balance. Delicious!

Cask at BrewDog Camden, London. Pours black-brown with a soft, off-white foamy head. Nose holds quite a bit of ripe citrus, strong grapefruit, dark pineapple, some well and toasted malts. Decent flavor, medium sweet, some burnt caramel, burnt grapefruit, strong burnt grass, some juicy pine, mild smoked meat. Medium bodied with fine to average, smooth carbonation. Pretty dry yet resinous to finiush, a good dose of burnt wood, robust grapefruit notes, dark toast. Some burnt sugar. A nice black IPA overall. Reasonably well-balanced.

Keg at the brewery tap in Henley. The first sunny Friday afternoon of the summer, so what better to do than head over to the Lovibond brewery tap in Henley. After a sample of this I decided it was the perfect beer to drink sitting in their garden watching the world go by.
. It’s pitch black in colour with a tawny tint against the light and a thin cream head; the aroma was hard to identify at first - I picked up wood smoke and licorice, but in the end I decided it most reminded me of warm, freshly laid, tarmac. It’s soft in the mouth, and there is an immediate impact from the hops which are assertive and mellow at the same time, and are supported rich, slightly tarry, malts that give a slight sweetness that offsets the dryness of the hops well. Excellent.

On tap at the brewery, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon 20.04.12 Looks pretty black in colour with light beige head. Not so bitter from the outset, though the bitterness does tend to open up and cut through some dark roastiness and molasses actually I get quit a blast of caramel initially but the bitterness swiftly reigns this in. Soft in the mouth, some burnt flavours occasionally pop up. Another beer that I’m really enjoying from Lovibonds. A7 A5 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9
