‘Ondergronds’ (underground) immediately evokes the image of a coal miner with a layer of dust on his face, working hard in the extensive underground passageways. The roasted malt largely determines the colour, aroma, and flavour of this beer. The beer turns black as coal in the glass and has a cream-coloured foam head. Kompel Ondergronds undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle so the beer is protected better and develops a more complex character.

First brewed at Brouwerij Anders! Between 2015-2019 the beer was brewed at Kasteelbrouwerij De Dool.

330ml bottle in 13i, a sports bar with a decent beer list in Valkenburg, on 3rd November 2025. Dark malty brew with a fairly sweet feel. Caramel like flavours before a dark fruit undertone takes away some of the sweetness.

0.33 l bottle from 'Carrefour' (Maasmechelen), best before October 2023. Almost clear, deep ruby with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and a bit roasty aroma of caramel, leaves, some raisins and light nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity taste of caramel, leaves, raisins and some nuts, followed by a short, gently bitter, quite dry, a bit grassy, minimally roasty and a little yeasty finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice!

Fles te geprobeerd. Het is een donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een moutige wat fruitige geur. De smaak is moutig, overrijp fruit en noten.

Bottle from Prik & Tik, Riemst. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, thin, frothy, tan head. Aroma of dark toffee, brown bread, mocha, liquorice, raisin, vague strawberry, cherry. Taste has sweet-spicy liquorice, toffee & raisin, brown-bready maltiness with a sour berry effect. Herbal hoppy finish, notes of mocha, liquorice & raisin. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Better than your average industrial Belgian Dubbel.
