Pours a deep golden straw color with a huge fluffy white head that sticks around for a while, but suddenly disappeared when I wasn’t looking. Smells of bready sweet malt with that pilsner malt aroma. Hints of vanilla and a sweet floral smell in there as well. I was expecting a bit more of the barrel to come through in the aroma. Taste is sweet with bready malts up front. Mid way through I get the oak tannins with a some vanillin. A bit of a harsh alcohol burn and hop bitterness linger in a long thick finish. Spirited amount of carbonation surprisingly can’t fully cut through an almost syrupy mouthfeel. Medium to thick bodied beer. Certainly an interesting take on the style. I enjoyed it but the sweetness and the burn were a bit much for me. I will revisit in the future with a bit of age.
