An IPA matching coffee to hops. Coffee can be full of fruity aromatic character, and we all know what hops do to an IPA. Here we’ve made them sing together. Same choir, same song.

Note: Uses Nicaraguan beans from 7 Seeds and Cascade and Galaxy hops.

Bottle 64 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a hazy amber with a creamy beige head. Dry chili (coffeeish) aroma combined with subtle citrusy hops. Medium body, a heavy dry fruitiness with very bitter hops while the coffee is more downplayed in the flavours. Still citrusy though. Ends bitter - quite bitter. 200312

From a 640ml bottle on 4/11/2011. Pours a relatively clear dark orange, with a medium head. Has a pleasant aroma of tropical fruits, a touch of coffee, and some distinct floral notes. Flavour wise, bitter dark roasted coffee dominates (I’m stunned that some others say they can’t taste the coffee) but there’s also a lots of sweet fruitiness in the background. Nice stuff.

Light copper color. Soft grapefruits with just a hint of coffee. The coffee hits your palate first and then it becomes all about the ipa. A touch sour, not a ton of bitterness, butthat probably works well for this beer. Coffee an oranges probably dominate the most in the mouth. Interesting.

Pours dark amber with ruby hints.Nose shows tropical fruity hops in abundance with passion-fruit and peach really standing out. Underneath is a soft earthy, nutty character that, once smelt, is easily recognisable as the coffee. Adds an interesting aspect. The coffee is much more noticeable as a flavour, adding a distinct earthy, bitter note. The hops enter afterwards with more fruity characters along with a fair bit of sweet clean malt.Could use more carbonation.Definitely interesting, but the coffee character seems a little harsh as a flavour.

Bottle. Clear orangish amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus, berries/ coffee, peach, caramel. Taste has rather plain caramel sweetness with berries, lightly roasted coffee, bitter finish with some citrus, pine and a whiff of grinds. The coffee in the aroma works nicely but this didn’t quite hang together for me, perhaps because the caramel has subtler aromatics to hide behind.
