Civil Disobedience #1: A blend of two different batches of Arthur and a bit of a beer called ’mimosa’, a saison brewed with orange zest and brett clausenii. All stainless. Not barrel aged.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange yellow with small white head. The aroma is oak, floral, citrus. Slick body, funky, light dry finish, held up well.

Bottle during HF CD night; hazy golden amber pour with a frothy white head, zesty citrus aroma with light funk, taste had some light aroma, mellow lemon, a hint of grain, some barnyard.

This is a beer I’ve been trying to track down for a while. I met a Ratebeerian in California who wanted to share some beers. He gave me a choice between a 2001 3F Oude Gueuze or a Civil Disobedience #1. I chose this because I’m a weirdo. While the Gueuze may have held up better, this was a real treat!
A - Insanely cloudy but most of these traveling beers are. Although, the hint of Mimosa may have led to this being a bit cloudier. More of a dark yellow, fluffy head and huge carbonation. Not a gusher just a lot of carb on each pour which is a very welcome thing.
S - Smells like Vanilla and Cream Soda with a tiny bit of wet cardboard and ropy leather. Nice grassy notes but clearly showing its age.
T - Taste was good and improved as it warm dup throughout the evening. Taste is loaded with a ton of funk and Brett and really hearty ropey leather. Finish is nice. Slightly cheesy and bitter orange peel and spice at the finish. Cardboard and funk lingers
M - Great mouthfeel, full bodied lemon meringue texture.
O - This beer was probably excellent a year ago but a Summer 2011 beer may not have just fallen off but who knows how well it was stored and how many hands it changed over the years. Still, it was great to try this. Thanks CheepBeerBuzz for sharing!

THE Sour and Saison tasting. Again thanks to our Hill Farmstead pusher - Leighton - for another rare HF beer. Hazy gold beer with big off white head. Light milky nose. Light airy palate with minerally carbonation. Super mild citrus, mild brett. Airy finish. It’s all a bit ephemeral and reminds me of some of the early HF Saisons that were nothing special.

Bottle at THE Sour and Saison Tasting, London. Another contribution from LKS. Pours hazy, shiney gold, effervescent, with a lively, white foam head. Great funk in the nose with suggestions of fruits (citrus, lime) and socks. Light to medium sweet flavor with some dough, bread, big brett funk, mellow bitter grass, wet blanket. Light to medium bodied with high, lively carbonation. Bit more sweetness to finish, with rich white bread, cleansing dryness, socks, dough, very modest grass. Quite wonderfully balanced and delicious.

Bottle thanks to Leighton at THE sours & saisons tasting (part 1). It pours hazy light orange, with a thick white head. The nose is spice, freshly baked farmhouse bread, brett, earth, citrus fruit (particularly tangerine) and some subtle tartness. The taste is smooth, spice, peppery, tangy citrus, zesty orange, tangerine, dough, light tartness, earth, faint astringency, bitterness and brett, with a long, dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Well balanced and flavoursome. Delicious.

Rating #3000. 750mL bottle, pours a cloudy yellow with a voluminous white head. Aroma is very rustic, with loads of yeast, a bit of barnyard and lots of brett. Flavour is very complex with loads of the brett character now fully revealing itself, some regular yeasty notes, and moderate funk. All the qualities that a saison should have, in my book. Super drinkable, with perfect lively carbonation. One of the best and most complex saisons I've had. Beautiful.

Bottle 750ml. @ [ Fastelavn Smagning - Carnival Tasting - Ulfborg ].Unclear matt medium yellow colour with a large to huge, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, moderate to heavy yeasty, citrus - orange, spicy, coriander, fruity, light peppery yeast. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120218]
