A beer that dates back to the eighteenth century, when it was created by brewers in Burton-on-Trent (UK). And its Victorian origins are apparent from the very first encounter. Let yourself be seduced first by the beer’s colour and elegance, then by the fruity aroma of the finest top-fermenting yeasts. Full-bodied yet delicate, it expresses its well-rounded richness in a dance of flavour.

Bottle in Genoa purchased from Enoteca Squillari. Almost clear gold beer. Nice white head. Light dry palate. Fine carbonation. Dry sweet pale malt, a trace of honey. A little marmalade citrus on the back end before the dry finish. Hangs together quite well although not really a pale ale.

Bottle. It’s a clear, golden body and a small, white head. Hoppy nose, with pinecones, orange and pale malts. Nicely carbonated, a bit high maybe, but pleasant. Semi-sweet, medium body. Oranges, pale malts, caramel and some bitterness in the flavor. Long, bitter finish. The flavor is a bit dull, but saved by the finish. Overall, quite pleasant and easy drinkable. 111123

13/08 0.33 l bottle from Coop store, Gradisca d’Isonzo. It poured copper body with small head. Fine yeasty and biscuit aroma, touched with caramel. Nice flavor as well, elegant malts with spices like cloves. Slightly sweet fine caramel base. Medium bodied. Long and tasty finish, caramel and slightly bitter spicy. More similar to some lighter Belgian ales than English ones, but it’s greatly underrated here. Nice.

Bottle. Pours golden, with a light head. Aroma is not bad, with notes of caramel and sweet citrus. Flavour also has some notes of citrus, but mostly it’s bitterly unpleasant notes of sour cabbage and yeast.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika. ABV is 6.5%. Golden colour, large to moderate head. Aroma and flavour of unhopped pilsener wort, cooked vegetables and baby porridge. Remarkably bad and boring. The Norwegian importer has apparently decided to import the entire Theresianer range without tasting all the beers first. This one (and the Bock) is not something I would buy again. Ever.

330ml bottle picked up at Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo. Dark golden body with a low, bubbly head. Sweet fruity nose with hints of lactose. Taste of half-dried, sweet fruits. Short fruity ending. Lack of hops. Beyond par for the style (shared with Finn, Tromsø 29.06.2011).

Biggish offwhite head doesn’t last. Coppery body with small-bubbled carbonation. Malty grassy aroma with fruity earthy herbal notes. Dry-sweet buttery grainy strawy taste with herbal earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, faintly slick mouthfeel. Dryish earthy vegetable aftertaste with grainy minty notes. This is a pale ale? Tastes like normal eurolager to me. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly Vika, Oslo.)

0.33l bottle. Pours a clear golden body with a nice little bubbly white head. Aroma is on the sweet and malty side with notes of thin watery hops. Body is medium, texture surprisingly nice and smooth and it's average carbonated. Quite grainy flavors and has a good sweetness from all the malts. It's also light peachy with lots of nice caramel and quite low on the bitterness. Finishes off with a mild pungent finish and a longasting malty aftertaste with notes of some alcohol. A quite nice pale if you ask me.
