This beer is brewed for the supermarket chain LIDL. I had been lying in the sun for three hours and wandered off my sunbed to get a beer from the small shop behind ’Stani Beach’ in Kalamaki on the Greek isle of Zante (Sep 2011). I couldn’t see a thing once out of the sunlight, but this green can took my eye, Burgen Pils, never heard of it, so I came out with it. Only back at my bed did I manage to see the writing on the can, bloody LIDL shit. It was cheaper than an ice cream and did replenish my sweaty body but as for being a decent brew, forget it. This is a poor mans pilsner. A cheap supermarket brew and once again I don’t learn from experience, always take your glasses with you when buying beer and let your eyes get accustomed to different light before leaping in.

Can. It pours a clear, golden body and a minimal-sized white head. The aroma is weak, malt, fruityness and some wet cardboard and grass. In the mouth it’s quite soft on carbonation, medium bodied and dry, with grass, pale malts and fruityness. Rather low on bitterness, all the way. Superboring, but not undrinkable in any way. 120217

Bought in a spanish Lidl. Golden, low carbonation, nice white head. Sour mas when pouring, later a crisper aromatic hop note shines through. Light to medium undercarbonated body, hence a little bit sticky. Balance is good though and I dont get any off-flavors. Quick finish, light grassy aftertaste. Not inspiring, but not bad either.

0.5l can. This is a clear golden beer with a small fading and sidesticking white lager-head. Aroma has hints of cardboard, some light pale malty notes and not much more. Lively carbonation, light bodied and it has a thin and watery mouthfeeling. Tastes as it smells. Light notes of cardboard, some watery malts and it ends with a twist of bitterness. Really blend and extremely boring.
