11cm of snow in just a few hours here in CPH ❄️ right weather for this winter warmer bringing layers of strong sweet sticky caramel, toffee and maple malty goodness, singed brown sugar, spice and bourbon laced lingering malty warming close. Lovely.

12 oz can. Pours a dark brown color with smallish beige head that quickly vanishes. The aroma is mostly caramel, butterscotch, oak barrel. The taste is big with caramel, sweet toffee, maple and butterscotch. Bitterness is secondary with black walnuts and barrel woods. Palate is full and viscous. Finishes long and sweet with lingering sweet caramel and woods. Overall: Nice--We see so few barley wines here that it is a welcome change of pace.

Can. Pours near black with a thin brown head that dissipates quickly and completely. Aroma has a bourbon and sweet grain combination with toffee and a bit of caramel coming through. Flavor has growing sweet bourbon and toffee with caramel and sweet grains supporting.

12 ounce can - dark ruby, nearly black - nose is heavy char, maple, cinnamon, vanilla - thick, chewy mouthfeel - the maple from the barrel and the cinnamon dominate - underlying notes of caramelized sugars, treacle, dark fruit, the faintest hints of oxidation - I think there might be a pretty good barleywine hiding under there, but it’s hard to tell.

Draught @ Hops Hill - Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn. Opaque dark brown with a frothy ring of dark beige head, woodsy aroma, low carbonation, initially sweet dark caramel malt taste with strong woodsy flavor, almost like maple syrup, faint alcohol undertones, long medium bitter woodsy finish. Good one, well covered ABV.

Can from Brew Export. Aromas of sticky toffee pudding, caramel, demerara sugar, butterscotch, liquorice toffee. Rich taste of sticky toffee pudding, maple, burnt sugars, apple strudel,. Humungously warming. Troubles the enamel somewhat but it tastes so damn good.

12 oz. can. Pours black, with a big, foamy, light brown head. The nose is maple syrup, mocha, butter toffee, nutmeg, and light leather. Very sweet and syrupy, with a mellow, crisp, backing bitterness. Heavy, syrupy, and sharp. Fun and interesting, if a bit cloying.
