Strong, refreshing full of body, and dangerous if abused. Yellow in colour, but not in heart, this beer weighs all that is good in the tradition of strong English ale.

Handpull cask at the Needle and Pin, Loughborough. Golden brown with a big and slightly loose off-white head. Buttered toast, nuts and sweet malt in the aroma. Hoppy bitter taste overriding the sweetness of the malt. Long finish with sharp woody hop in foreground. A bit green but well-balanced and very tasty.

Cask durign IoW Jolly. It pours clear golden-amber with a small white head. The nose is earthy, toasty grain, cereal, mild sweetness, soap and fudge. the taste is toasty grain, mild citrus, caramel, light floral and a touch of soap. Medium body and fine carbonation. A fairly simple golden bitter, but nothing wrong with it. Alright.

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 3 - London. Pours clear, rich gold with a creamy white head. Moderately nutty with simple toasted grains, dry bread, caramel and some grass and leaves. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Decent balance to finish, more toasty bread and classic twiggy bitterness. Solid bitter.
