(Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Chestnut colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, nutty, roasted nose with dark fruit, prunes, plums and dusty, earthy hops. Malty, roasted taste with notes of nuts, chocolate, coffee and lots of dusty hops in the finish. Medium body, mainly dry. Nice and very drinkable ale.

Cask handpull, Pommeler’s Rest, JDW, London. Chestnut colour with thin beige head. Some rather nice fruit and malts with a sour edge. Lovely old style ale. Good roasty dry malts and then this sour finish is excellent.

Cask at The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester 29-12-07 A sweetish malty beer, little bit fruity and with layer of caramel, like the other beer I had here this was also served a bit too warm.

Cask. Copper colour, small white head. Aroma is berries, fruity hops and some slight wooden hints. Flavour is wooden (oaky), fruity hoppy and slightly of apples. Pleasant, but not very special.

[Cask at The Monks’ Retreat, Reading.] A superb glossy dark brown colour with a red tint, with a thin off-site head on top; not much aroma but a hint of malt; however the taste is great, exploding in the mouth with an intense caramel maltiness, the sweetness is well balanced with a toasty dryness leading to a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. Excellent.
