Bottle from Morrison. Black beer touch of liquorice some choc and cold coffee. Yes a touch over carbonated which I couldn’t do anything about as I was drinking it from a bottle on the train. chocolate sponge cake flavour. Some sting on the finish. Pretty good actually.

It’s black or at least dark enough that it’s hard to discern the colour. Thick, frothy off-white head. Aroma is malt and something else I can’t place. Malt, chocolate and toffee in the flavour. Strong and full-bodied but mellow enough that the flavour isn’t too strong. very pleasant.

Aroma is grassy and has a hint of bitter orange pith. Flavour is initially quite smokey. There is a light acidity to this beer which I am not keen on. The finish is drying and becomes quite watery.

500ml bottle - a near black pour, healthy tan head, smoky nose - liquorice, coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar. A bit thinner in the mouth than I’d like in a porter, but a good hit of smoke and molasses in the taste. Enjoyable.

500ml (Bottle conditioned): best before 2nd Dec 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard during my IPA and Porter evening on 11th Aug 2012. Dark brown almost black body, thin fading head arrived and left. Burnt treacle in the nose and taste: heavy in the mouthfeel, dry, semi-bitter and leaning more towards a good UK Mild more than an accomplished Porter. This came last on my score card for Porters, the flavours being weak rather than pushing my taste buds.

500ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a large head. Aroma is sweet, little liquorice and smoke. Taste is sweet to start, some smoke on the finish and a liquorice finish.

Bottle in the hotel room at the Premier Inn, Aberdeen. Pours a lightly oily black-brown with a tight, creamy beige head. Gives off a healthy, roasty, slightly lactic chocolate aroma. Pleasant flavor, light to medium sweet, with mild roast, burnt wood, cocoa, burnt leaves, minerals. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Finishes dry with lots of burnt wood bitterness, some light smoke, minerals, light chocolate. A very decent beer overall.
