Hippie I.P.A.

Light gold with a large but quickly diminishing head. Spicy aroma and flavor, medium bitter hops.

Bomber from SkepticMAP and OhioDad, not sure who’s bottle I drank. Shared with OldGrowth on 5/28/2005. Caramel malt in the nose, crystal malt as well, smelling rather dry on the end, a bit of paper? Fruity yeast notes, some diacetyl. Amber-ruby colored body, with a white head that slowly recedes to a ring. Lightly hazy. Flavor is pure caramel/dextrin sugariness, very resinous hops flavor throughout ending highly bitter. Some candied-citrus notes from the cascades and caramel interplay. Medium-full body. Bits of fruitiness linger on. Great malt extraction, but just too much resin for my liking. Great mouthfeel, low carbonation, fluffy. Moderate lacing on the glass. Would definitely like to try this again fresh on tap.

Amber colored pour with a chunky head that gives off a good grapefruit hop aroma characteristic of good ole Cascades. The first thing I notice is there is some good body in this one and it’s delivered with a substantial bitterness that stays until the finish. The malts are in there too but the "balance" is towards the bitter side. This is robust without being overly done.

Paid $2.79 for a 1pt 6oz bottle. Great medium amber color with a HUGE frothy head. Sure, it takes awhile for it to settle, but that's part of the fun of a good IPA for me.... looking at it, it looking at me, tempting me, teasing me, telling me to break the rules and just swig the damn thing. NO! I must resist, I must smell this beast first. Small smell, not overpowering like some. And in some ways that's good, but I really like a heafty odor from my IPAs. This one has hints of orange more than grapefruit. Uh... bitter and hoppy without much other flavor. Kind of disappointing, I must admit. I swear, I almost taste soap in there. Well... not all beers are winners. Too bad the appearance was the best thing about this one.

Another solid IPA by the folks at Buckeye. This shaggy, burnt-orange headed (err...bodied) brute definitely does not have peace on the mind, considering the way the hops assault the palate. This is a very piney IPA with sharp grapefruit-like acids biting the tongue. Medium-bodied. Malt sweetness develops beneath the hops as the beer warms. The Hippie apparently rolled in a wheat field at Woodstock, but I'm not detecting any. I do prefer my IPAs a bit fruitier and not so bitter, but this is still good stuff.

Cloudy tan; Minty, sprucey, toasted grain aroma. Some minty, toasty elements balancing the palate.
