Heavy on hops, that was always the brewery plan. So in 1980, we loaded Pale Ale up with Cascade—a new hop at the time named after the mountain range—and the intense aromas of pine and citrus sparked the American craft beer revolution.

Medium stable bubbly head, quit4 clear and dark orange colour, quite malty orange and pine, medium goorapefruit peel and pineapple bitterness. A bit too malty but still quite nice.

It is a regular ale, on the American way. The color is copper, bitter, hop, malt, a bit watery but it is easy to drink, drinking it a long time ago, to repeat one of these days.

0.473 l can from 'Craftbeershop.com', canned in March 2025. A little hazy, golden orange with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, gently fruity-resiny aroma of mango, grapefruit, orange jam, some pine and light tobacco. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite resiny and gently fruity taste of pine, tobacco, grapefruit, mango and some orange jam, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. First time I tried this iconic beer in all those years, delivers as expected. Nothing outstanding anymore, but really well-balanced and harmonious.

Re-rating (previous 7.3) Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 18B). Can 35 cl - Batch 16 (BB: not declared - Canned on: 112724). AROMA: medium-low hop aroma (pine, slight ripe cantaloup melon) supported by medium malt character with slight toffee notes. slight ripe orange. APPEARANCE: deep gold color and clear. medium moussy ivory head with average retention. TASTE: medium-low fruity notes similar to the aroma (ripe melon, orange), followed by medium-low malt (toffee-like). medium-high bitterness that lingers beyond a medium-dry to dry finish. balance towards the hops and bitterness. PALATE: medium-light body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a nice american pale ale example with the balance tilted towards hops.

Can shared at work. Pours copperish golden with a lacing white head. Nose is restrained, vague floral and fruity hops with a malty touch. Taste is more intense tho, it shows floral, citric and resinous notes with a good amount of bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Well rounded with a nice balance, nothing revolutionary obviously, but classic for a reason.
