’Anchor Steam’ ale, brewed at the Anchor Steam Brewery is the defining example of the style and since I, US Steve and Young Phil have all visited this brewery (albeit a decade apart) we decided to pay homage to the famous ale/lager beer with our very own interpretation.
’Common Conspiracy’, is an amber ale with a gentle, sweet hop aroma. It starts off beautifully malty before the German grown ’Northern Brewer’ hops kick in and lend a refreshing long bitterness.

Cask @ Akkurat. Hop dominated. Big flowery and herbal taste. Medium bitterness. Light and refreshing.

Cask at Wandsworth Beer Festival, March 2012. It pours copper-amber, with a bubbly white head. The nose is hay, wood, leather and a touch of honey. The taste is very dry, metal, straw, leather, wood, nut and honey, with a big dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. So-so.

16/06/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (cask). Free gravity cask.

[Cask at Reading beerfest] Light amber with a loose, off-white head. Nice floral aroma fails to shine in the taste. A slightly sticky mouthfeel with caramel and a slightly unpleasant leaf-and toffee bitterness. Some spice in the finish.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Clear, rich gold with a sudsy head. Baked, toasted malts on the nose, whiffs of grass and earth. Lightly sweet, toasty, with a strong bitterness of grass, wood and dank, too-ripe oranges. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Hops linger in the finish, pretty dry, not to sweet, crispy malts. Nice beer.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 09. Given how good the Dark version was, I was so excited about seeing this. Beautiful clear pale chestnut, lasting bubbly beige head. Some leafy hop on aroma, but not as hoppy as I expected. Good toffee in mouth and then really quite bitter on end. Not as good as the Dark. Hoppy on end, but more bitter than flavoursome. 3.1. Cask gravity Folkestone Lovely actually fresh on today cracking condition. Good malt. Loved it.
