Handpull cask at Old No. 7, Barnsley. Dark brown, translucent to an extent. Creamy beige/khaki head on top leaving good lacing down the glass. Nutty aroma, bit of liquorice and slightly smoky notes, some oak. Sweet taste with liquorice more prominent here, some sarsaparilla, suggestions of chocolate and caramel. Finishes nearly as sweet as it starts: No hoppy balance in the finish here (not that it necessarily needs it)! More caramel in the aftertaste. Light body, carbonation low to medium. A very fine little porter.

Crown Inn, Oakengates; 19th July 2019, hand-pulled half-pint. Tanned head, black bodied. Roasted maltiness in the aroma and taste with chocolate and coffee esters and flavours to the fore, half bitter, half semi-sweet. Pleasant end of a mini session of halves.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 8/3/2016. Jet black with a decent, beige, head. Plain chocolate, roasted malts, a hint of blackcurrant sweetness and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at the Euston tap. Opaque reddy brown coloured pour with a lasting loose light tan head. Aroma is woody roast, smooth creamy coffee, light vanilla. Flavour is composed of charred wood, acrid bitter coffee roast, some ashy. Palate is watery, thin and creamy, low carbonation. Meh.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, 22 Apr 2015) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of milky chocolate, coffee, dark bread and a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite an excellent little porter. Very nice.
