I was a little confused by this beer. If I had drunk it blind I would have described it as a good hoppy bitter/pale ale but not an IPA. Having read the description on the back label of the bottle which concludes with "A golden, distinctive hoppy pale ale....." I think that describes it well. The notes also say that it is a nod to Thomas Salt, the founder of the IPA style. So fair enough, a good idea to read the notes before drinking.

Cask at Brews of the World, Burton on Trent. Pours a hazy pale lemon with minimal white head and good lacing. The aroma is malts and yeast with just a hint of floral hops. In the mouth the hops are more prominent and there is also some pepperiness. Plus some underlying biscuit malts and caramel. A beer which bears very little relation to its name ! Otherwise OK.

500ml bottle. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with a short-lived, frothy white head. The aroma is malt and gluey yeast. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a crisp, yeasty, light citrus, light floral, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

[50cl bottle from Morrisons, Festival Park, Hanley.] A bright straw coloured pour with gentle carbonation and an immediately dissipating white head; malty aroma; sweet biscuity malt body with a trace of citrus; and a light pithy bitterness to finish. Possibly the most misnamed beer I've ever come across.

Bottle from Morrisons. Golden in colour, with a small, off-white, head. Hedgerow hops a touch of lemon sharpness, ripe malts and a moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Bottle. Pours clear gold, brief head, minor retention; not promising for a supposed IPA. Aroma of roasted malts, a little flora, some lime; doesn't smell that fresh. Taste is malty with some tangy orange, above average sweetness. A rising mild bitterness is never quite enough to balance that sweet element. Moderate body, somewhat oily and resinous on the palate, carbonation is ok. Overall its not a great ale although its more than just drinkable..
