Clear copper coloured body with a nice orange glow and just a sliver of a white head. Aroma of light malt, yeast, a touch of nuts and very little else. Light-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal flavours with a touch of hops, a lot of malt and some yeast very noticeable. Aftertaste shows some bread, some toffee, a little bit of earth and more bland cardboard flavours. Overall, not such a great beer - missing some flavours in the middle with only a nutty earthy taste that shows fully through. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 28-October-2011 for US$1.49 sampled at home in Washington on 05-November-2011 - brewed on date (bottle) of 21 August 2011 at 08h41.

Cask gravity @ GBBF 2011. Pours a golden amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with weak hoppy hints.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Amber with a small white head. Malty aroma with heavy diacetyl. Sweet malty flavour with fruity and grassy notes.

Pour is a clear copper with an average white head. Aroma is mild caramel malts. Flavor is mush the same. A very minor caramel malt and not much else. Watery, easy to drink and very middel of the road.

Whole Foods, P St, DC sixer ($7): Pours a lightish amber color with an off-white head. Slightly floral and slightly malty aroma. The clever thing about this beer is that they created an ale that tastes really similar to a marzen. Not only is it similar to a marzen, it is actually a good marzen. Subdued hoppiness, good amount of maltiness, ever so slight bitterness, and a wee bit of sweetness. This beer don’t try to stand it out, but it do what it do and do it well

GBBF. Cask. Hazy brown beer. Residual off white head. Light semi dry palate. Caraway nutty malt. Trace of dried fruits. Semi dry finish. Ok if somewhat one dimensional.

One-third pint, gravicask at USA Cask Ale Bar, GBBF’11. Amber-dark brown to look at, dotted spots at the glass. Rather inviting smell of dark sweet malts. Dried fruits mixed with sweet caramel in flavour, notes of butter. Malty endnotes. OK, if not a bit unusual for an Octoberfest bier (London, 04.08.2011).

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.ABV: 6.7%. Unclear medium orange amber colour with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, nutty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, berry sweet, roasted nuts - caramel bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20110803]
