This blood-red ale may not be what you expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Poured up on tap at the Pleasanton Hopyard with deep amber body and thin copper edges as well as a tan head of foam that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The aroma offers up smooth roasty malts mixed with a bit of chocolate malts, nutty maltiness and a touch of pine hops. The taste creates notes of malts, sweet nuttiness, a bit of pine hop bitterness and just a pinch of sweet dark fruity esters toward midway and into the finish. Yummy stuff.

Tap at the Rubicon. Pours darkly garnet with a creamy beige head. Light citrus aroma. Near med body. Flavor is roast malt with some medium dark fruit and enough hop to keep the malt pretty much under control. Main flavor is roast malt, but itβs smooth, not harsh. It endβs more bitter than not.

On tap. Pours with a clear brown to amber body with a lasting tan head. Aromas are big time citrus hops, chewy, pine, simcoe, caramel and light coffee. Flavors also show a bit of a coffee roast note, hoppy, citrus, pine and toffee. Sort of a soggy malt/wet dog note (odd). Medium bubbles, dry, slightly bitter balance.
