Cask at the Bedford Arms, Bedford. Copper/amber, slightly hazy with a bit of natural head. Aroma of caramel, crystal malt, raisins. A sweet fruit/malt taste is met with an astringent bitter. The bitter seems to win. Nice but the balance is a bit off. Palette is quite thin for an ESB. Aftertaste is bitter bordering on acrid. I like this beer one minute, and dislike it the next. While I must applaud its tenacity, it’s unbalanced and unsure of itself. A good enough drink but one is enough.

Bottle at Chriso’s. Fruity, wild aroma, funk. This is off. Sour, dry, yeasty, it almost works and becomes Orval, but not quite.
