A dark, malty red ale with nutty, roasted notes from the chocolate malt. This session bitter is hopped with Kent Target hops from the National Trust’s hop farm at Scotney Castle and Finchcocks’ Kent Goldings. A satisfying and flavoursome pint.

Can from the brewery online shop. Appearance - copper to Ruby. Suddy off white head. Nose - red fruits, dried orange but mainly caramel and cakiness. Taste - burnt raisin and burnt toast. Palate - medium bodied, dry almost astringent middle and finish. Overall - definitely more generous on the nose than palate.

Bottle from The Crafty Barbers. Pours a clear copper red colour with a medium sized soapy looking beige head. Nice lacing. Aromas of floral, roasted malts, red fruits and caramel. Taste has notes of nuts, more floral and a nice long burnt roasty bitterness on the finish. Fairly light bodied with a very smooth mouthfeel. A lot of flavour for 3.8% abv. Nice one.

500ml bottle. Gluten Free. Coppery reddish amber colour, tan foam head leaving lacing on the glass and malt mash, bready aroma. Taste is sweetish malty, bread, toffee with chocolatey & roasted hints and some drying nutty bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Quite OK traditional bitter.

Cask at the Goldhawk - London. Pours clear amber with a foamy, off-white head. Toasty malts in the nose, with hints of caramel. Light sweet flavor with more toast, orange citrus, leafy bitterness, nuts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly sweet on the finish, with some sticky toasted sugars, dark and ripened citrus, toast, nuts, grains. Just about decent.

Cask at the John Logie Baird (JDW), Hastings. Amber with a tight cream head and a fruity aroma - nothing like the brewer’s description. The flavour is muted fruits with nutty carmael malts, followed by a light, dry, biscuity finish. Pleasant enough, but not worth a second glass.
