A premium ale to commemorate the year 1965 when the Black Eagle Brewery closed. Brewed to a similar recipe that Bill Wickett used for his last brew at the old brewery on 3rd March 1965. Kent Northdown hops give a clean, refreshing full bodied flavour for which English ales are famous. Finished with Finchcocks’ Kent Goldings for flavour and aroma.

Cask. Slightly hazy amber with a small and creamy off-white head. Lightly sweet caramel in the nose combined with some greasy hops. Medium body, low carbonation, quite some odd phenols and a dry finish. Unspectacular. 190912

Cask at the Wharf. It pours a clear, pale copper colored body and a small, light beige head. Biscuits, grapefruit peel, some resin and a faint vinegar touch. Don’t think the vinegar is intended, fear it might be a beer sitting to long in the cask after tapping, so didn’t deduct points for that. The flavor has pale malts, some hints of toffee, as well as citrus peel and a decent bitterness. Some vague vinegarish notes in the flavor too, but it’s not really sour. Soft, medium body. Decent bitterness in the end. A decent one, but not a favorite of mine. 111008
