A wonderful winter warmer. Deep amber, strong ale not for the faint hearted. A magical blend of malts with Styrian hops that give a mouth-watering hop aroma, smooth and warming malt flavours with a deep, spicy hop finish. Devilishly moreish.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours “bitter brown” with a medium sized foamy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly malts with hints of honey and nuts. In the mouth it is slightly bitter with a creamy texture. Initial flavours are malts and berry fruits but the latter fade after a while to be replaced my autumn fruits and traces of floral hops and spice. Finish is somewhat sticky. This is OK but somewhat forgettable.

Cask up the White Lady. Pours clear golden amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of caramel and light spice. Taste is quite warming, despite the relatively low abv, toffee and malt. Something herbal on the finish.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Was surprised I hadn't rated this one before, I'm sure I've had it before. Copper coloured with a beige head. Caramel and autumn leaves up front. Autumn fruits come through with some wood and toffee. The booze is surprisingly evident. Sweetish, but a drying finish balances it well. Some decent complexity here; I quite enjoyed it.

Cask at the Harp. Dark amber colour with frothy off white head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty, bit of grainy malt too. Taste is yeasty, touch of fruit and some malt. Quite boozy feeling considering it is only 5%. Not wild about it, but was perfectly ok. --- Beer merged from original tick of Comfortably Numb on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7.
