A strong, full bodied, fruity beer; tawny red in colour. Wassail won Beer of the Festival at Cardiff in 1992, and Bronze in the Barley Wine category in the 1993 Champion Beer of Britain. Won the Silver at the Great Aberystwyth Beer Festival in 1998, and best in class at the 2002 SIBA South East Region Brewing Competition.

Flaske 500ml spandert av Rune. Delt med ham og djoeye på Nerstranda 5 Aug 14. Amber. Svakt uklar. Lavt filmskum. Aroma av syrlige bær. Smaken det samme med økende grad av syrlighet.

Cask. Amber (close to pale copper) colour with a nice foamy slightly off-white head, that leaves some lace and stays on the beer for a good while. Aroma is sweet malts, mild caramel and toasted notes as well as some slight ripe fruits, nice nectary and floral notes as well as some grassiness. Flavour is sweet ripe fruits, some sweet malts to go with it as well as some nice bitterness in the finish. Rather wellbodied, and actually highly enjoyable strong ale.

Cask at the Wandsworth spring BF, London. Pours clear, dark amber with a foamy, white head. Toast, leaves, ripe fruits and faint toffee in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with plenty of toasty sugars, bread, light spice and bitter leaves and earth. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky sweet finish, lightly warming with lots of leafy hops and some leathery fruits. OK.

Bought as a bottle of English Heritage Wassail from Stokesay Castle, Shropshire. Pours a dark honey, going on cola colour with some head. The nose has honey, sweet malt and a real rum ’n’ raisin note. The taste has sweet malt, prunes and alcohol burn. The palate is medium to large in body, there is a thick texture but it is slightly spoilt by the alcohol burn on the finish. Overall, a good beer that could have been better had they concealed the alcohol at least to some extent.

Cask (handpump) @ Market Porter, 9 Stoney Street, Southwark, London, Greater London, England SE1 9AA.Clear light dark amber colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, toasted, roasted, caramel, malty, wood - resin notes. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet, light light acidic and moderate bitter with a long to average duration, vinegar notes, caramel, dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20101227]

Cask-conditioned at the Sussex beer festival, Seven Stars, Bristol 6/1/11. Deep, reddish amber with a slight off-white head. Sweet, caramel and red fruit aroma, with some earthy hops. Flavour was also sweet, with a hint of toasted malts and short, dry finish with the alcohol very prominent. Not a beer I would try again.

21st October 2008. Cloudy brown beer. Lively sour start with a hop fruit undertone. Dry sour spicy finish with a lingering bitterish aftertaste and some more spice. Full of flavour - just a tad too toasty.

Cask. Hazy brown colour, very small head. Sweetish, vinous flavour, quite malty. Fruity and nicely rough hoppiness, some berry. Low carbonation. Tastes a bit of high ABV.

Cask @ Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a small off-white head. Roasted malty dark fruit aroma with hints of caramel. Sweet malty fruity dark fruit flavor. Sweetish malty slightly alcoholic finish with hints of caramel.
