Das "Premium Dunkel" (der Kellner legte Wert auf das Wörtchen "Premium") der Jenaer Biere, vom Faß in der Papiermühle, 14.7.2025. - Kastanienrotbraun, fast klar. - In der Nase überdeutliche Hefe, Karamelsüße, leicht säuerliche Frucht, dunkles, leicht röstmalziges Malz, milde Hopfung. - Antrunk dagegen recht solide Münchnermalzig mit deutlichen röstmalzigen Aromen, angenehm malztiefer Süße und ausreichender hopfenwürziger Herbe. Durchschnittlich rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang mehr malzbitter als hopfenherb. - Angenehmes, malzbetontes und nicht gar zu mild gehopftes Dunkles.

Bottled, from Papiermühle, Jena. Clear nut brown, mildly gushing lively head. Rich aroma of hazelnuts and butter. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Dominated by butterscotch and hazelnuts. Low bitterness. Heavy on diacetyle, but pleasant in a rustic, old fashioned way.

The wife and I stayed here overnight on 9th May 2017 and I obviously had all five of their beers that were on tap that evening: this being the third. Decent Dunkel in looks, aroma and taste (not often I say that about a Dunkel). Brown with a beige head, nose and taste had a malty front, back and sides: easy to drink and although on the sweet side (all this breweries beers were sweet to be honest) I liked it a lot.

(swing top bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a firm medium-sized tanned foamy head. Hearty dark malty aroma with notes of caramel, hazelnuts and vanilla, accompanied by herbal hoppy spice. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Almost dry dark malt character with profound nutty notes, caramel, as well as bready accents and a tinge of chocolate, backed by delicately herbal hops; lasting dark malty and mildly hop bitter finish. More-ish and rounded Dunkel. 12.VII.16

Bügelverschlußflasche: Clear, amber coloured, medium-sized off-white foam; almost robust dryish toasty nose with a distinctive herbal-hoppy background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; lingering and more bitter than sweet herbal-toasty finish. Very good. A kind of diluted DDR-Bock...
