Bottle, from historic notes. Source not recorded. Poured amber brown with an average size off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, plum, dried fruit and caramel. Medium sweetness and body. Soft carbonation. Quite enjoyable at the time.

Really liked this Christmas beer, pity the review and the second one I did both got erased from the BA site somehow. I know it had a plum rich flavour and aroma, it was a dark ruby colour, which looked great. The spice ’mace’ is used in the brew, I knew there was something in the flavour, but I didn’t pick up just one spice, mixed spices hit me in the nose and in the mouth. Pity I can’t remember the whole review, it was a good read!

Bottled. Reddish amber colour with a small beige head. Aroma is plum, raisins, some mild sweet maltyness as well as mild herbal notes. Flavour is raisins, sweet malts, fruits and some floral notes. Old bottle, but nice to see some hops have survived as well.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Brown beer with a crisp palate. Good carbonation. Strong sourish fruit, the spice is subtle. Refreshing.

Bottle, Morrisons, West Kirby. Something a bit nasty and ill conceived about this....Definite artificial tang, aroma was a mixture of car tyres and gummy plums. Sickly flavour, couldn’t finish. Booo

Red brown colour, thick foamy head. Slightly sweet and medicinal aroma. Has a syrupy fruitiness. Fells quite heavy and cloying in the mouth.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Russet brown with little head; yeasty aroma with a hint of spice; rather acidic fruity flavour, definitely some plum in there, but also lots of sugar. Finish is rather tart and cidery. Not a good attempt at a Christmas ale.
