355ml can. Pours a clear red-amber with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of toasted bready malt, caramel, prune and raisin. Sweet flavour of toasted bready malt, caramel, toffee, prune, raisin, date, molasses and light spice in a sweet finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty, very drinkable for the ABV.

12 oz. can purchased at Specs in Austin, TX. Pours a clear, very dark bronze color with a beige head and very good retention. Small spots of lacing. Caramel aroma. Caramel flavor from start to finish with just a light boozy finish. Pretty smooth for an 8.0% ABV. Heavy body. One dimensional but enjoyable. Sneaky strong.

Pour is a dark but clear brown with a large white head. Aroma is dark malt with a little dark fruit and some metal. Flavor is more chewy malt with some dark fruit like plums. Leaves a sweet caramel on the tongue after the swallow. This was a o.k. dopplebock. Decent rich malt with a nice dark fruit flavor.

I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!
This pours from the 12oz bottle a clear amber with about a 1" head of foam that recedes quickly but it has some good lacing after the pour.
The smell has notes of roasted malt, caramel malt, grain, and a touch of chocolate. It also has an "earthy" nose to it.
The taste is of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt(it's light), caramel malt, and a bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is pretty light and it finishes slightly sweet, watery, and again, some alcohol. I think the alcohol is just too invasive in this brew and prevents me from appreciating the actual flavours which come across as too light. I *do* think that they have a base here that can be worked on/tweaked and it *could* be a nice sipping brew but, imho, they aren't there yet.
Thanks again John for giving me a chance to taste this one.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 10/30/2017. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/light brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, raisin, plum, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, raisin, plum, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/woody hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of aramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light fruit, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not too fruity/yeasty. Minimal dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a delicious doppelbock. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and east to drink for the ABV. Rich and clean Munich/Crystal malt flavors, just enough noble hops to balance the sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

12 oz. bottle. Dark, ruby brown, with a medium, bubbly, beige head. The nose is biscuit, toffee, cinnamon, caramel, and molasses. Very sweet, with a light spice. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, oily, and chewy. This is a big, malty beer, but the flavor is a little off.

Can from HomeBrewStuff. Solid, complete doppelbock, not outstanding, but a great example of the style. Mostly clear brown, small airy head. Nice malty sweetness, drying out towards the end, but still maintaining some pleasant swett taste. Tasty stuff.
