Nøgne Ø is proud to have created this beer in cooperation with Nordic Barista Cup. We wanted to make a coffee beer that was diferent and decided to use cascara, the dried husk from coffee bean, instead of roasted beans or actual coffee. A strong cascara tea was blended with the beer and, in addition, cascara was steeped directly in the finished beer. We hope you enjoy the result! The cascara used is from Aida Batlles farm, Los Alpes, in El Salvador and was donated by Solberg & Hansen.

Bottled at Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Cloudy deep golden, brief head. Perfumy yeasty nose with lemon and peach. Fairly dry with clean, hard mouthfeel and spritzy carbonation. Salty finish with growing bitterness. Rather harsh and with an unpleasant touch of lemony yeast.

500ml bottle @ The Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm

Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma has hints of berries and citrus. Taste is pretty unique with hints of tea, herbs, berries and lemon. The body is a bit too light and finish is more sour than bitter. Otherwise quite an exceptional beer.

Bottle from trade with Yngwie. Thanks. Pours cloudy golden with a small white head. Nose is coffee beans. Very herbal. A bit of mint. Flavor is dry and hoppy and again with some herbal coffee notes. Smooth palate. Ends very dry. Nice. A bit more balanced than the Mikkeller IPA edition! Coffee notes are clearer and easier to trace.
