On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours black with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is licorice, roast, cocoa, cracker. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, sweet, light dry finish, very good.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels on 10th January 2020. Ruby black with pale tan foam affording full lacing. A rich roasted malt aroma. Cherries, plums and raisins decorate a malty, roasty liquid pass. A slightly spiced, roasty finish. Full bodied with an engaging mouthfeel.

Avec 60 d'IBU, ce porter, peu sucré s'axe autour d'une amertume qui se veut quelque peu herbacée. Mais pour être réellement efficace il aurait fallu que les arômes de malts torréfiés s'expriment davantage. Et là forcé de constater qu'il est un peu poussif avec une attaque et une seconde bouche de trop inhibées. Ce n'est qu'à partir de la troisième bouche et sur le final que ce heavy prend son envol...trop tardivement. J'en reste un peu frustré car les arômes présents au nez sont profonds avec un superbe moka accompagné de caramel et de café. Le visuel sur un noir total surmonté d'une fine couche de mousse brune est également appréciable. L'attaque laisse circonspect quant à l'intensité. C'est aqueux avec de surcroît une texture très fine. Par contre les arômes n'en sont pas moins très agréables et intéressants avec chocolat, café et réglisse accompagnés de légères épices et d'une touche fumée. La deuxième bouche peine à prendre de l'envergure, l'amertume restant en avant, faisant allègrement ses 60 d'IBU. L’arrière-bouche est d'ailleurs encore un peu plus sur l'amertume. Ce n'est qu'à partir de la troisième bouche que les arômes sr posent davantage avec de surcroît une longueur appréciable, l'alcool à 6 % étant d'une bonne efficacité. La corpulence est pour sa part moyenne. Tout cela manque de heavy.

Cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, Belgium. A black coloured pour with a bubbly off white head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, chocolate, vanilla. Delicious porter and on cask in Brussels too.

27 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke. Cheers to Ama Deke, Erwin, John & Meeki! Hazy dark brown-black, lasting, thin, frothy, tan head. Aroma of toast, fondant, tobacco, coffee roast, cashew, walnut, cream, raisin, fig. Taste is medium malty sweet, notes of chocolate, nuts & sweet tobacco, fruity edge of fig & raisin; roastedness comes in for the form of fondant, coffee & earth, leading to a dryish, herbal hoppy finish, more chocolate, raisin, cream & tobacco. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Less ‘heavy’ than one would have expected, both in taste and palate, but essentially plain good.
