Bottle, 4.6%. Papery and nutty aroma. Clear amber colour, hint of grey. Small frothy off-white head. The flavour is grainy and nutty with a strange liquorice, aniseed note. Rough bitterness in the finish, but not too distinct.

50cl bottle from Tesco, Henley. A dark amber por with a attracive beige head rapidly falling back to a thin film; earthy malt aroma; lively in the mouth with a intense fruity malt flavour, that then becomes drier and nutty; with some gentle hops to finish. Surprising good.

500ml Clear bottle: best before Apr 2013, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on Sunday 10 June 2012. Nice brown, deep amber coloured body: on top an off-white head sat on top. Malty, nutty aroma and taste with a spritzy, well carbonated bodyfeel a slight hop bitterness appears towards the end of each sip, but this is a malt first brew, the hops important but secondary in prominence.

Cask (as Cheltenham SPA). Deep golden/amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel and crystal malts with some mild riped fruits, wood and mild herbal notes. Flavour is similar along with some resiny and grassy bitterness. A bit mouthdrying as for the palate.

(Cask at Angleterre, 20111031) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and sulphur. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, sulphur, hint of smoke, hops, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, smoke and bitterness. Nice bitter and even the suplhur wasn’t disturbing.
