Bottle, as St uten. It pours a finger-thick, brown head over a seemingly black body. If it’s possible for a beer to smell thin, this one does, but it’s nice anyway. A pleasant mocha chocolate aroma escapes the glass or bottle while pouring, soon being overtaken by cold, strong coffee when sticking the nose into the glass. Roasted malts and a pleasant hoppyness too. Some vanilla rounds it of. In the mouth it’s as expected quite thin, more or less watery, and very dry, giving it some quenching qualities. Seems this one’s gonna be my lawnmower beer this summer. There’s flavors of roasted, almost burnt malts, coffee, resiny, citrus peel-like hops and a pleasant roasted-style bitterness. Short finish. Well, I guess I’m gonna be accused of homerism with this rating, but I have the back to bear it. It’s a damn fine alcohol free (alcohol free in terms of taxation at least) beer I hope will be readily available and have many sisters and brothers. 110611

Draught at Københavnske Øldage 2011. Black, minimal head. Aroma of rasiny wort. Sharp and roasty, razorblade thin with rock hard mouthfeel. Aggressively metallic. Just terrible, even for a low alcohol.

Black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee and toasted bread. Same notes on the flavour, with a touch of hops. Thin as expected, but not to the point of making it undrinkable. Roasted finish and aftertaste.

500 ml bottle, as Nøgne Ø Stuten, unpasteurised first brew, sample at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Impressive appearance - pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Roasty aroma with strong notes of coffee. Roasty dry flavour, notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Fairly bitter finish with some resinous notes. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, as expected, but this is by far the best n/a beer I’ve ever tasted.
