Leonardo di Vincenzo has travelled from Birra Del Borgo brewery to Everards brewery in Leicestershire to re-create this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is deep amber in colour, with an aroma combining spicy malt with caramel and ripe-fruit notes, leading to a flavour of smooth malt, soft chestnuts and delicate honey hints, plus a long aftertaste of roasted chestnuts.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading] Deep amber, moderate creamy head. Sweet treacley malt aroma. Taste is dominated by wonderful roasted chestnuts. Lots of hazelnut too. The treacle and sweet malt is still there behind it all, and there’s some green leafy hops too. Just a hint of bitterness, but this is all about the sweet smooth chestnuts. Lovely stuff.

Cask at The Central Bar JDW. Pours dark copper with a light, filmy beige head. Mild malt aroma with caramel, sugar syrup and nuts. Flavor has light to medium sweetness, with decent caramel and bread notes, faint maple, and some modest earthen hops. Light bodied with fine carbonation. The finish is quite dry, a little bready and sweet, with just light bitterness. Very basic character overall but not altogether bad.

Cask, handpump at a JDW in Leith, Nr Edinburgh in company of Craig, Rob and his mate (sorry forgot name) & Loz 29.10.10 Pours dark amber in colour. BIt chewy in the mouth, there was some dispute amongst our group over whether there were indeed chestnuts in this or whether chestnut was just the description of the colour (Rob’s theory) , I personally found there to be a nutty creamy taste which I would liken to a chestnut, distinctly fruity, tasty beer. Cask handpull at Society Rooms, JDW, Maidstone. Dark brown colour thick lasting beige head. Some caramel and toffee. Not much if any nuts. It’s a toffeeish best bitter. Not huge hop finish. Fine.
