500ml bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Almost black colour no head. Roasted malt and fruit aroma. Taste is only a touch of sweetness, followed by a bitter finish.

Bottle from can’t remember where. Clouded deep purple colour with a very rich but not quite sickly sweet sweetness. Has a spirit-like aftertaste.

Clear dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Modest fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, tangy and a little thin. Touches of dark chocolate and dark fruits. Light semi dry finish, with mild bitterness. Light on it’s feet and fine.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Absolutely gushed a clear dark brown with a bubbly white head. Really.... I lost most of this beer on my kitchen work surface! The aroma is yeast red berry fruit alcohol. The flavour is medium sweet with a yeast medicinal alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with frothy carbonation. No way is this a porter and I strongly suspect it’s infected. Barely drinkable.

500 ml bottle conditioned, a gift from my beerpal Olav, thanks! ABV is 6.6%. Dark brown colour, minimal head and carbonation. Fairly nice aroma where chocolate malts dominate, also vanilla. The flavour is not too sweet, again chocolate malts dominate, discrete hops in the background. There is just enough carbonation to keep the beer from being totally lifeless, thus making it quite drinkable.

500ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Dark black in colour with very little head. Smells of roasted chocolate. Tastes of slightly sour chocolate with hints of sour cherry sweets and coffee. Good oily mouthfeel, although a little too sharp on the finish.

Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Lovely, dark red colour. Massive beige head, down to the over the top amount of carbonation, I reckon. Too fizzy! Much glass swirling later, and it’s ready to drink. Aroma is dark fruits, bonfire toffee. Fruits well to the fore, mind you. Taste is sour dryness. Alcohol makes its presence known. Lacking finesse. But aren’t we all...

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours hazy brown with a small white head. The nose is earth, caramel, roasted malt, toast and sticky dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, dark fruit, faint tartness, caramel, coffee and light bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Decent all-round.

End of the bottle at CBC islington. Thanks leighton. Murky brown, small cream head. Nose is sweet vanilla oak with a touch of booze. Not oak and choc in the flavour. Decent beer.

Bottle shared at CBC Islington - London. Pours lightly hazy brown with a fine, creamy tan head. Dry cocoa in the nose, some dirt. Medium sweet flavor, some burnt toast, chalky cocoa, light alcohol, mild earthy bitterness, some dried semi-dark fruits. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish, mellow dry chocolate, some earth, toasted brown bread. Good stuff.
