A traditional copper coloured bitter. Fuggles & Goldings hops give fruity flavours balanced against Pale, Crystal & Brown malts.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - almost black but with red chinks. Nice fawn head. Nose - a but butterscotch on opening. Taste - bitter molasses. Burnt malt. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry tangy yet crunchy finish. Overall - this us very hard work and I’m not sure this was as the brewer intended.

Hazy reddish amber beer, small bubbly pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Light malt base, whisper of toffee. Tangy overripe orange on top. Little bitter gloralness. Mild dried fruits. Smooth semi dry finish. Mild bitter linger. Easy going.

Hand-pulled pint in The Malcolm Arms, Anton’s Gowt, a small hamlet in Lincolnshire on 29 Mar 2013. Dark amber/ruby red with a slight haze: a rich tan coloured head sat on top. Malts rule the flavours: semi-sweet molasses in both the nose and taste: no bitter finish to speak of, the malts completely ruling the whole drinking experience. Not bad, but a bit one dimensional.

Cask-conditioned at the Cambridgeshire & Lincolnshire Beeriodical, at the Seven Stars, Bristol, August 2012. Amber with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and berry fruit aroma with some some hedgerow hoppiness. Flavour was also sweet, and marred by a buttery edge, leading to a moderately bitter finish. The worst beer of a high quality festival.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a dark amber colored beer with a small, off-white head. Strange fruity nose with some malts and an earthy touch. Rather herbal bitterness, some caramel in the flavor. Medium body, dry. Bitter finish. Hmm, not sure about this one, it sure didn’t suit my palate, but I can’t really point out what’s wrong. 110318
