OIBF Collaboration Brew: For our collaborative brew with Buxton we decided to brew a Scotch Ale, but as our first collaboration with Buxton use plenty of US hops so it is more like an IPA. The base is what we thought would be appropriate for a Scotch Ale: some toasted and caramelized malts including Special B with gives raisiny flavor. To Enhance the dried fruit flavor we added figs and raisins in the hopback and picked hop varieties known for their dark fruit flavors.Bramling Cross and Pacific Gem in the kettle, Cascade and Mosaic in the hop back and Simcoe and Cascade as dryhops.

Sample from bottle at hotel room in Helsinki. Thanks to Hermod! Colour is murky light brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Caramel, some dry fruits and malts. Pretty good. Quite hoppy for this kind of beer. I like this one.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at pre HBF2017 Saturday tasting, thanks Hermod) The beer poured deep amber and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had caramel and pine . Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, creamy toffee, pine, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, hoppy and bitter. A pleasant hoppy brew with sweet malty body.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, bottling date 22/07/2016 BB 22/07/2017, 33 cl sample. Slight hazy copper color, medium frothy head with lasting lacing. Aroma has burned caramel, slight spices and dried fruit. Soft sweetness, again with burned notes, caramel, toffee, spices and dried fruit. Medium carbonation makes it look good, but it is a tad harsh and full bodied because of it. Belgian styled ale, which a Scotch is, that has plenty to offer, but is not gonna be a classic for me. Decent though.

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub. Nice deep dark red color with a full sized dense off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly leaves, somewhat bitter, lighrly figs and some caramel. A bit odd but an ok beer. Expected more though. Expected a more intense full flavor.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 14 Sep 2016) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, red fruit and pink grapefruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, red fruit, pink grapefruit, hints of cranberries, toffee and a generous citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with a fresh hop character. Nice one.
