Sampled at ACBF 2011. Smoky aroma. Juicy. Cigarette smoke finish. Not pleasant to me too fag ashy.

Draught @ Th. 4th. Alvinne Craft Beer Festival (ACBF) 2011, De Kasteelhoeve, Doorniksesteenweg 314, Outrijve (Avelgem), Belgium.Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, burnt malt, dark chocolate malt, chimney - smoke. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110304]

tap at lord nelson. Faint roasted malty aroma, faint smoke, appears pretty solid, but mild. Flavor is strong, licorice, strong roasted malty, full, pretty tasty, smoke is almost drowned in all the other nice flavors

Draught Little beige head on black beer. Smoked, roasted but rather demure nose - if good. Cigarette smoke, very different from the Bamberger smoked ham, or the phenolic Belgian tries - much drier, for instance. Medium bodied, grist slickness, well-carbonated. Pleasing, if unspectacular smoked.

On tap. Pours an opaque pitch black with a dense light brown head leaving laces. Hard roasted malts in the nose, some dusty hops and a whiff of smoke. The body is surprisingly rich and full, again hard roasted accents, ashes and a little licorice. But again also these dusty notes. The finish has a fairly solid bitterness which I believe is from both malts and hops. A slight (roasted) tartness underneath whilst the smoke is pleasantly downplayed - more like an afterthought. Decent alright but the dust and the ashes makes it a little rough on the palate. 040311

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes ofroasted malt, tar, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of smoke as well as medium notes of bacon, roasted malt, burnt wood, and dark chocolate, leading to a very dry finish.

From tap at Ørsted Ølbar. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, liqourice and somewhat smoked. Smoked and dry malty flavoured. Dark malty, smoked, roasted, toffee and caramelish. Smoke overdues the caramel and malt. Bitter and dark roasted malt. Dry and smoked malty finish.
