Mbuyu ist der Name des Affenbrotbaumes auf Suaheli, der Landessprache Tansanias.
Der afrikanische Affenbrotbaum, der auch Baobab genannt wird, ist etwas ganz Besonderes und darf nicht mit dem Johannisbrotbaum verwechselt werden, dessen lange Früchte in jedem Gemüsemarkt zu kaufen sind.
Der Affenbrotbaum gehört zu den bekanntesten und charakteristischsten Bäumen in Afrika. Der Umfang des Baumes kann gewaltig sein und er kann ein Alter bis zu 2.000 Jahren erreichen. Verschiedene Legenden ranken sich um sein ungewöhnliches Aussehen und deuten, warum scheinbar seine Wurzeln in die Luft ragen. Eine dieser Legenden erzählt, dass der Teufel den Baum ausriss und ihn anschließend mit den Zweigen zuerst in den Boden steckte, so dass die Wurzeln nun in die Luft ragen.
Monkey Bread Beer ist kein Biermischgetränk. Einem fertig vergorenen Weizenbier wird der Extrakt der Frucht des Affenbrotbaumes zugesetzt und das Bier wird ein zweites Mal vergoren.

Bottle from Prosi, Vienna. Hazy yellow golden color with medium white head. Aroma of malt and tropical fruits. Taste, malt, tropical fruits, nice hoppy bitterness in finish.

Ein Fruchtbier mit Affenbrot-Baum-Früchten (Baobab) eingebraut - das ist ja mal etwas neues. Gemeinsam mit einem Joint venture namens "Kilimanjaro beer works" in Tansania wird dieses Bier gebraut. Ich habe keine Ahnung wie eine Baobab-Frucht schmeckt, habe aber einen angenehmen, unbekannten Fruchtgeschmack gemerkt. Ich sage daher mal, dass die Fruchtaromen passen und auf jeden Fall mit dem Bieraromen harmonieren. Dass es nicht besonders hopfig ist, war zu erwarten, fällt aber aufgrund der Fruchtnoten auch nicht negativ auf. Von den bisher getrunkenen afrikanischen Fruchtbieren eines der besten.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, fruity yeast and sugar. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with a slightly dry finish. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. It’s a clear, pale golden beer topped by a dense, fingerthick off-white head. The aroma is yeasty and fruity, with some white sugar and an unusual herbal touch. Sort of saison-ish. A bit thin on the palate, with pleasant carbonation. Dry. The flavor is mostly fruity and sugary, with some bitterness and herbs. Saison yeast used in this one? Fruity finish with a pleasant bitterness. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much from this one, but it’s actually quite nice. 130222

Bottled. An unclear light yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of malt and lemons. The flavor is acidic with notes of straw and lemons, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Bottle. Tasted blind @ yespr. Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a small white head. Has a fruity and slightly sour aroma. Fruity wheat sour tart flavor. Has a fruity sour tart flavor with wheaty hints.
