This beer is correct similar like the Appenzeller Schwarzerkristall, malty, bready, smooth at the palate, nutty, touch of hop at the final, 19.10.19, trying it at Kirchzarten and buying it at Freiburg am Breisgau.

Pours a almost black color. Aroma of bread, toasted malts, some caramel, a bit boring.

Milder dunkler Antrunk. Geringe Herbe, etwas getreidig, weich. Süffig, wenig würzig. Okay. 10/8/9/8//8

Draught Good & dense, light greige head over very deep chestnut-red beer. Melanoidins, (dark) malts. Very dense head seriously hampers nasal perception. Sweet, very malty, maltcookes or wholemeal breakfast cerials, faintly ashes. Again, finish being drier. Light to medium body, quite slick. Dry aftertaste. Übliches Dunkel - but that means actually quite good.

500ml bottle [Gratitude for this is due to bartlebier]. Clear, dark brown colour, ruby red glimmer, with small, frothy, rapidly diminishing, minimally lacing, beige head. Grainy aroma with dark malt attachment, Afri-Cola, lets re-arise in the mind’s eye the little boy, far from being street-smart, searching his way to the toilet in a dismal, dark-tiled corridor of a shabby tavern, whose only function consists in holding post-burial funerary coffee parties, luckily trusting his scent more than his eyes - exactly this, the chintzy part of the 80ies, funeral, mouldy toilets, prehistoric urine, disconsolateness. Taste is not a bit better nor especially different, just with dry and metallic hints of burnt grain in the finish. Somehow utterly adequate to funerals. I wouldn’t wonder if the people of Lenzkirch had replaced the tradition of shoveling a scoop of soil into the grave by spilling out a bottle of ’Lenzkircher Dunkel’ across the coffin.

Bottle: Clear, chestnut-amber coloured, mid-sized slowly collapsing off-white head; light to moderate nutty-caramelly nose plus a nutty tinge; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; mild malty-fruity finish. Nice and mild......

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a clear one, brown in color and with a small, dense beige head. Nutty, caramel nose with a fruity touch. The flavor is a bit dull, with nutty caramel maltyness and some roasted notes. A touch of bitterness too, but as said, a bit dull. Medium body. Far from bad, but nothing exciting. 110128

(bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Clear, dark brown and slightly ruby colour with a dense medium sized tanned foamy head. Mildly toasted malty aroma with subtle berry-fruity notes and a tinge of hops. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly toasty and leafy malty taste with shy traces of herbal hops; mildly sweet and shy bitter hoppy finish. Not that bad but also not really convincing for a Dunkel. 21.IV.11
