Launched and enthusiastically received at the first annual Halifax Seaport Beer Fest in August 2007, this ale has quickly become known as the hoppiest beer in Atlantic Canada! Imperial Pale Ale is a robust, medium bodied west coast style ale with a lingering hop bitterness complimented by a malty caramel backbone and a strong citrus character. This beer is for the true hophead!

I’m in love!!! Huge amounts of citrucy, sweet piney hops! Medium mouthfeel, some subtle honey notes, and another grapefruit hop smash of a finish. The bitterness clings in my throat, I love it! I’m going to buy this by the case when it hits the lcbo shelves.

Seriously aged sample Small cream-coloured head over almost clear ruby-shot copper beer. Oxydation, biscuit a mile out, bit liquorice, billberry bushes. Bitterish, bitter (cheese)cookies, apéritif snacks. Oxydation less outspoken than in the nose. Autumn leaves, dry, oakleaf, but also (dry) caramelmalt. Almost wry in the finish, walnutpeel. Medium bodied at best, bit thinnish but nowhere empty. Low carbonation. Its hoppiness and good ABV saved it for all those years. Must have been quite impressive fresh. Txs to Stef!

Bomber between four at the 25th Oct 2016 Shrewsbury Beer Share. One of a box Mat and I traded with Duffman. Cheers mate. Poured a misty amber, small off-white topping. Aroma was caramel first and foremost before the piney hops kicked in. The taste was also semi-sweet caramel with plenty of piney hops on top. My thoughts ran to marmalade at one point, so there must be some fruitiness in there somewhere too. I liked it.

Bomber @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 16. From trade with Duffman. Many thanks! Pours a deep amber, small off-white head. Aroma is prominent caramel, pine and sweet malts. Taste continues with a big caramel malt presence and vibrant resinous hops. Not my preferred style of DIPA, a bit too malt-laden, but I can appreciate this.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of onion and citrus with a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has sweet grains, sweet citrus and a touch of resin with a hint of onion underlying.

Keg at the brewery. It pours clear deep amber with a small white head. The nose is soft, juicy, bitter-sweet, orange citrus, guava, papaya and resin. The taste is rather bitter, oily, resinous, dry, piney, varnish, big hit of grapefruit, waxy rind, earth and peppery spice with a lingering bitter-dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Punchy, yet rather drinkable. Good double IPA.

A hazed golden amber ale with floaties, and a thick frothy light mocha head. In aroma, pleasant fruity caramel malt with loads of floral resinous hops, grapefruit pulp, light menthol, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with loads of resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice alcohol warmth, very nice.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very deep hazy amber with a generous off white head that clings to the glass. Nose is heavy pine and citrus with a good dose of bread thrown in. Taste is great bitter pine and grapefruit and spice with some sweet caramel and honey to keep it under control. Nice long resinous bitter finish. Mouth is medium slick with slightly soft carbonation. Excellent Imperial.
