’Versnijbier’ blended from three different beers, one of which is aged on sherry barrels to add woodiness and complexity. Very limitedly produced (only 450 litres). Off-white head, very dark bronze colour. Aroma of sour apples, balsamic vinegar, candied fruits, vanilla, wood, sour cream, rubber... Lots of vivid, estery fruitiness in the taste like in many sour ales, lactic acidity, sherry, some coffee, chocolatey malts, delicate mouthfeel, woody, with a light roasted bitterness in the finish. Unbelievably complex beer, a stunning masterpiece, a shame they did not make more of it.

Bottle split at Chriso, #4 of 50, big thanks to Kenny 10/07/14. Dark mahogany brown with a good sized light beige covering. Nose is tarte dark fruit, sour red berry mash, dank wood tones, spice, light caramel wafer. Taste comprises tangy dark fruits, woody rinse, spice, vineous licks, light apple orchard, citric vinegar light. Medium + body, fine carbonation, tangy dark fruit rinse in the close. Decent enough sour.

Bottle 4 of 50 thanks to Kenny! It pours dark brown with a small white head. The nose is sweet, vanilla, toasty, candy, cocoa, dried fruits and wood. The taste is crisp, tart, dried berry, candy, sherry, some acidity. granny smith apple, lemon zest and a touch of jam with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty tasty stuff. Decent for a heavy duty sour.

At ACBF 2011. Some sweetness/some sour. Quite a bit of toffee on the aroma. Then it turns into this sourness on the finish. Bizarre. Perhaps will be better with some ageing as the sweetness goes and the sournesss becomes more pronounced.

Draft at ACBF 2011. Pours black-brown with an off-white head. Sour, dark fruit nose. Nice flavor, lightly tart fruits, some dark sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderate sour finish, some cherry or something, and light sugar. Very good. (3.9) Update: Bottle at 4:20. Ruby-brown pour with a mild foam. Some sour berries in the aroma, along with light dough. Flavor is sweet enough, with some tart berries, and more doughy malts. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Light warming finish, some lingering sour notes. Good stuff. (3.7)

Bottle at ACBF. Very dark brown black beer contrasts starkly with the bright white head! Mildly sour nose. Milky sweetness and mild sourness with a little subtle sherry. Semi dry finish. Hugely drinkable sour beer - probably the best sour I have had to date!
