Bottle with thanks to Ben! Pours inky oil-like black, small brown head, dissipates fairly quickly, some lacing. Aroma is loaded with molasses and roasted malts, baking cocoa. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, rich and loaded with molasses and burnt sugars, leather. Full body, creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle(purchased in 2011,@The Bottle Shop, Canterbury):Literally black, stable, but very small tanned foamy layer, very solid bitter, fruity, roasty and leathery nose; solid sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied, smooth; soft and solid lingering bitter and sweet finish with flavours of leather, roasted malt, port and dried fruits. Not the worst session-beer…

(bottle, 33cl, 12.5% abv, brewed 29.08.2010) Black coloured hue with a brown and short foamy layer. Moderately roasted malty aroma with notes of vanilla, leather, chocolate, coffee and a vinous touch of dried fruits. Moderately sweet and roasty bitter, also subtle sour flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Balanced roasty malty and vinous fruity taste with notes of dried fruits, Port, liquorice, coffee, also traces of vanilla; very lasting roasty bitter and sweet finish, again with fruity accents and a well-embedded alcoholic strength. 19.VIII.15

24.07.2013, 0,33l bottle sampled @ BBGTC "best-before-last-summer-tasting" :
Nice brown creamy shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, dark malts, dark sugar, hops, alcohol, perfume, licorice, coffee, cocoa, thinner. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malts, dark sugar, harsh hay, sour coffee, grass, perfume, thinner, oak, cocoa, caramel, licorice. Longlasting bitterness, dry harsh mouthfeel. Not for me!

Bottle at the ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to Toby for bringing this around! Pours oily, black-brown with a creamy, brown foam head. Big and rich dark malt aroma, plenty of cocoa. Lovely, sweet flavor with moderate alcohol, rich dark chocolate, sturdy roast, light burnt wood, burnt toast. Full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Warming finish with slick chocolate, some earthy bitterness, baking cocoa, dry roast and burnt wood. Big and ballsy but with great balance. Some dark fruit notes in there as well. Outstanding stuff.

Bottle at Chriso’s tasting 30/12/12. Thanks Toby from Kernel. really balck with caramel tones. Tan head and some legs. Huge Coffee, caramel aroma. Massive bold, but balanced flavours of coffee toast caramel . Hides the alcohol well with only a small amount of booziness.
