Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Pours rich brown with a strong, creamy beige foam head. Nose holds some overripe berries, dates and figs. Quite a big and sweet flavor with rich bread, dates, brown sugar and touches of alcohol and currants. Medium to full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Faintly warming to finish with brown sugar, some dark fruits, faint leather, raisins, figs, dates. Not intense depth of character here, but great balance and condition.

Bottle, thanks to Leighton at Bruce’s Housewarming Tasting. It pours dark brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is caramel, dark fruit (raisin, grape and cherry), oak and leather. The taste is caramel, blueberry, cherry, raisin, wood, slight tanginess, spice and brown sugar. Some underlying alcohol warmth. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good balance. Enjoyable.

The color is very dark, almost black, with a generous but fizzy brownish head.
Although the bottle spent a good amount of time in a fridge, there may have been a refermentation, as the aroma is quite strange, gassy, sulfuric, a bit soapy; all that covers the mildly roasted malts; after some time the gas is gone, and the normal aroma of the beer appears, with mild but nice roasted malts, a bit creamy.
The body strength is correct, the mouthfeel is partially round; the flavor of medium chocolate with light roasted malts and caramel is good; the residual sweetness is very low in comparison to classic Barley Wines; the bitterness is quite low to, but the dark malts provide some balance; there are traces of liquorice.
A fairly good Old Ale.

Bottle 27,5 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a dark brown with a vague reddish hue and a beige head. Aroma of overripe fruit, pruney with some alcohol showing. Solid body, Sherry, oxidized overripe fruit, again prunes and raisins, a little marzipan perhaps and a roasty touch. Warming alcohol. Lovely British style Barley Wine. 090212

Bottled. A black beer witth a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, tar, soy sauce, and tobaccon. The flavor is sweet wtih notes of malt, soy sauce, alcohol, and tobacco, leading to a dry roasted finish, that burns in the throat.

Bottled (shared by tdtm82 at Stortford Beer fest, thanks Thomas!). Pitch black colour (or close to), mediumsized beige head. Aroma is liquorice, some roasted, toasted and malty notes. Flavour is roasted malts, liquorice, tobacco and some slight hoppy notes as well. Mild ashes in the finish. Atleast this bottle tasted more like an imperial stout than a barley wine...
